A Ramble On Everything But The Super Bowl

First things first: No, I didn’t watch the Superbowl.

I did, however, watch the half-time show today, after seeing everyone on Facebook and Twitter (@DiscoveringEmma, shameless plug go follow me) completely lose their minds over Lady Gaga.  I don’t know all the lyrics to all of her songs and she’s not my “Queen,” so does that make me ambivalent?  As I watched on my laptop screen in the local coffee shop, however, I felt goosebumps rise on my arms like continuous waves, and something beat against the inside of my chest.

I really don’t want to make this political, and I don’t want to talk about how it seems like the whole world is crashing down around us, even from across the Atlantic Ocean and far away from all of the immediate drama.  Watching Lady Gaga perform, though, filled me with some sort of pride.  Despite everything going on, there was still someone speaking to the entire world saying “Hey, not all Americans are complete shit, we accept you no matter what.”

When that happens, I can feel myself actually feeling proud to be an American.  It’s been difficult recently, but I’m so thankful for moments like those when we can at least hope everything will turn out fine in the end.  So yeah, Lady Gaga won the Superbowl.
